The Holiday Inn Express hotel at Valkenburgerstraat is located between Amsterdam Central Station and the Stopera (City Hall and National Opera & Ballet).
The hotel is divided into 3 buildings that are an addition to the urban fulfillment. The façade facing the Valkenburgerstraat stands out because of its friendly, traditional choice of materials: a light hand-made brick combined with wooden frames. The storey-high façade plinth is made of warm grey concrete and completes the harmonious color palette of the façade.
The central part of this building consists of only two floors. The opening created by this design choice offers homes more natural light from the east. In addition, this choice made it possible to provide the central facades with different materials, creating a surprising contrast within the ensemble.
The last building is located directly on the Uilenburger canal and offers a pleasant view on the water. The three building elements are connected by glass bridge parts, whereby the three volumes form one whole. The architecture is by Mulderblauw architects from Amsterdam.
